SKYTRUE WIND What it is and how it works by Dr. Charles Ivie, Founder and Sr. VP of R&D

SKYTRUE is a proprietary data mining system for the wind energy and wind turbine performance evaluation and forecasting system. Using data obtained from satellites, Doppler radar, and other sources, the system can place a virtual anemometer at any location on the planet and produce an energy production history that goes back as much as ten years. In other words, SKYTRUE provides a record of power generation that would have occurred if a wind generator had been installed at the selected location.

But that is not all it can do. SKYTRUE can sow thousand of virutal anenometers surrounding a wind farm giving a true predict of the wind conditions by allowing you to see the wind coming across our Virutal Anenometers sowed in front of the wind farm.

How does SKYTRUE Wind do these things?

Conventional wind energy measurement is based on data provided by instruments physically installed at the location being studied. Anemometers mounted on towers are the primary source of information, but other instruments are also used to fill in the energy picture. Air mass density, moisture content, barometric pressure, local turbulence, cloud cover, solar energy input, and even Coriolis effects form important parts of the puzzle.

The problem is that measurement of each of these parameters requires additional sophisticated instruments to be installed at the site and these instruments require maintenance and periodic service or replacement. They also must remain at the selected location for years before a useful data set is generated.

THE PRODUCT

SkyTrue tm is data mining product that
supplies accurate virtual anemometer data for any application.

  • Siting  An example of siting system is displayed to right in this page   Here an actual wind site has been divided into equal plots or a grid, and wind speeds and directions have been extracted from satellite information using the GPS coordinates.

  • Forecasting   An example of our forecasting system  is pictured in diagram below.  Each small box represents a virtual anemometer (VM) based upon the GPS coordinates.    Here the VM’s are strung around the wind farm based upon the wind rose analysis.   This method allows for the forecasting system to see the wind coming as the satellite detects the wind resources some hundreds of miles away from the wind park.    One can build any geometric arrangements of arrays depending upon the terrain, weather patterns, and based upon the wind rose for forecasting including ramp up and ramp down situations.  Each box is VM located below will show real wind data extracted from the satellite located at particular GPS.
